Waimea Bay Summary & Things To Do On The North Shore of Oahu: Waimea Bay is one of Oahu’s most popular beaches, and for good reason. The bay is stunningly beautiful, with placid family friendly waters in the summer, and home to the islands biggest waves in the winter. Surfers from around the globe come to catch one good wave, while spectators can get a thrill themselves just watching. The bay has a large black rock in the middle of it that makes for some great cliff jumping of all heights(up to 35 ft.) Spring and summertime snorkeling, and wintertime boogie boarding make great family activities and the beach is always great for just relaxing in one of our beach chairs under an umbrella. Parking can be a bit tough, but read further and we’ll give you the scoop on where to go.
Waimea Bay Relaxing: The beach at Waimea Bay is massive, making even the most crowded day very manageable. HBT rents and delivers beach packages here frequently and most customers make sure to include chairs, umbrellas, and coolers with ice. This beach has enough activities and nearby amenities to make spending the whole day very easy.
Waimea / North Shore Kayaking: The kayaking at Waimea Bay is generally a spring/summertime activity and can be very fun. Paddling around either point of the bay is breathtaking and there are some great snorkeling spots in the area that any Hawaii beach time delivery driver can point out to you. Kayaking on the north shore is a great way to get some exercise and see Oahu in a way you never will from shore. Hawaii Beach Time rents and delivers kayaks at Waimea Bay all summer long, or any other north shore beach you may want to check out.
Waimea Bay Snorkeling: The snorkeling in Waimea Bay is fantastic, especially on the east side of the bay, where a number of rock formations provide some great marine habitats for fish and other sea life. Waimea Bay is part of the protected Pupukea marine life preserve, making it illegal to fish there, and thus the fish are often more tame and used to human interaction than at other places on the island. Hawaii Beach Time rents and delivers snorkel sets at Waimea Bay and neighboring Sharks Cove, and Three Tables beaches frequently. Days when the Waimea river breaks can make the water a bit more dirty and thus reduces the visibility, but aside from that the water stays almost crystal clear much of the spring and summer.
Waimea Bay / North Shore Stand Up Paddle Boarding Waimea Bay is an amazing place to try the popular new sport of stand up paddle boarding or SUP. Hawaii Beach Time rents and delivers SUP’s to Waimea often where customers can try it out in the calm protected waters that spring and summer offer. Wintertime is another story but if you want to stand up paddle board on the North Shore in the winter you can rent boards from us at Haleiwa Beach Park up the road where the water is much calmer year round.
Waimea Bay Boogie Boarding: Waimea winters are home to some famous shore break that on big days will send you home to your mommy. We don't recommend you go out on these days if you aren’t experienced. However, this is not always the case and many wintertime days at Waimea are great for renting boogie boards and playing in the water. Local lifeguards will help you determine whether the conditions are safe for your skill level.
Waimea Parking: Its tough, Waimea has a small lot that hardly does the job for such an amazing beach. We recommend either waiting in line for a spot, getting there early(8am) or parking up the Waimea Valley for a short walk. You can also park at the church up the street for $5.
Waimea Lifeguards: Yes, and please listen to them.
Waimea Restrooms / Showers: Yes.
Waimea Nearby Restaurants: Neighboring Haleiwa Town is home to some of our favorite restaurants on the island. Stortos sandwiches, Haleiwa Eats Thai Food, Haleiwa Bowls for smoothies, and Kua Aina Burgers are all places that we like to frequent ourselves. There is also a foodland grocery store just down the street from Waimea that has a bunch of great items to bring to the beach.
Waimea Bay Driving Distance from Waikiki: 1 hour 10 minutes.
"The Eddie"Waimea Bay is home to a surf contest that is held very seldom. Dedicated to the mermory of local legend Eddie Aikau, winning this big wave contest is one of the greatest honors a proffesional surfer can attain. The waves have to be 40 to 50 ft. in height for the contest to be held.
Waimea Gear to Rent:Waimea is a very versatile beach and works for all groups. Relaxation via our umbrella’s, chairs, and coolers filled with ice is always a good option. Depnding on the time of year, renting boogie boards, stand up paddle boards or SUP’s, kayaks, and snorkel sets can also help make your beach day unforgettable.
Waimea Places / Sites Nearby: The Waimea Heiau is a great historical site and a short walk reveals one of the most breathtaking views of the pacific ocean that Oahu has to offer. Sharks Cove just down the street is also amazing and home to our favorite snorkeling on the island.
